He currently has WPA/WPA2-Personal (PSK). Please!!Īs far as encryption, I currently just copy the settings my neighbor has on his router. I am curious if someone can read my description above to tell me which mode I need to use. I have read two Wiki Articles: Linking Routers & Repeating Mode Comparisons – but the information seems to be a bit technical for me. LOM: "If you show that you have not bothered to read the forum announcements or to follow the advices in them then the level of help available for you will drop substantially, also known as Murrkf's law." If you just want a fish, wait for a fisherman who hands them out. I'm trying to teach you to fish, not give you a fish. The configuration is not the same for various hardware types, but you are in the correct forum. Generally, WPA will not work, but WPA2-AES will. Read the linking routers wiki article about modes, and proper setup based on that mode, and read the peacock announcement so you understand things like what encryption will work. The Linksys E1550 appears to have a Broadcom chip, but my problem here is really DD-WRT configuration rather than Hardware related. My knowledge of networking is not too good. I am interested in trying to get DD-WRT to work like my Rosewill Router.
I just selected “AP Repeater Mode” and it worked like a charm.
Would this be Repeater, Repeater Bridge, Client or Client Bridge? The Rosewill Router setup was very simple. I would also like to be able to plug into the LAN ports on my router and get the internet connection. just relaying the signal to his router, which would handle the DHCP and the internet connection. By this I mean, I think DD-WRT seems to be properly installed.Ĭould someone please tell me what DD-WRT configuration settings I need to get the above functionality? (I hope to have more neighbors share the internet connection.) I followed the instructions on the DD-WRT Wiki Linksys E1550 Page, and everything seems to be working fine. I brought a Linksys E1550 Router, to replicate this functionality of the Rosewill Router. (The security is WPA/WPA2-Personal (PSK).) I can now connect to the internet by wireless or by plugging into the LAN ports on my Rosewill Router. I have set this router to “AP Repeater Mode” and put my neighbors SSID & his password. I have a Rosewill RNX-EasyN4 that I use as a Range Extender/Repeater. However his signal is very weak in my apartment. (I pay him and he agrees to allow me to use his Wi-Fi). I am trying to share the internet connection with my next door apartment neighbor. Please ask me to clarify if something is unclear My knowledge of networking is almost non-existent, so my use of various technical terms in my description below, may not be accurate.
